Q & A With Veterans Forward
| Read Our Blog Read Our Blog Blog Q & A with Veterans Forward Megan Hammond January 22, 2016 Training, Uncategorized, Veterans Forward 0 We just lately spoke with Veterans Forward Career Coach Kat Schaeffer to ask her a few questions about her transition from army to civilian life and how she makes use of her own private experiences to help coach and prepare her clients. What is the one thing you would like you'd have recognized after leaving the military and reentering civilian life? I actually wish I would have recognized tips on how to higher current myself as a âprofessionalâ, looking for a career in the âskilledâ world. When I left the military, I solely knew the way to present myself as a previous service member looking for a civilian job. Employers arenât always receptive to that. They need professionals, with professional expertise. When I left the army I was informed again and again that my abilities and experience gained during my military service have been highly sought after commodities in the c ivilian world. But when I started in search of jobs and talking about my experience in the navy, I realized that almost all employers didnât understand how that experience utilized to positions inside their organizations. I quickly realized that employers needed the leadership skills, adaptability and work ethic that I learned within the Marine Corps, however that I wanted to translate it into âcivilian speakâ for them to comprehend I had value for their firm. How do you incorporate that into your client coaching? I spend time with all of my clients teaching them tips on how to speak about their previous experience in a way that's related to their current career objectives. One method that I do that is by having all of my shoppers spend time developing knowledgeable core message. Developing a professional core message helps my clients discover ways to talk about their related navy expertise in a language that civilian employers perceive.
